FAQI110: How do I move MX-Contact Personal or Professional Edition from one computer to another?

The MX-Contact Personal and Professional Editions store all data in a SQL Express database.

To move MX-Contact from one computer to another, do the following:

  1. Backup the MXContact database (from the old computer), following the instructions found here:

  2. Copy the backup file (usually MXContact.bak) from the old computer to the new computer, into a folder you've created, e.g. C:\Backup\MXContact.

  3. Install MX-Contact on the new computer using the standard Installation Package (found on the Downloads page), following the instructions as per the MX-Contact Installation Guide - Personal and Professional Editions (found on the same page).

  4. Create a new MXContact database using the MX-SQL Manager utility that appears at the end of the install.

  5. Restore the backup file MXContact.bak from the folder C:\Backup\MXContact following the instructions found here.

  6. Open Outlook using the MX-Contact icon.
