FAQS135: How can I backup the data file used with the Personal or Professional Editions and SOHO Standard or Advanced Editions?

The Personal, Professional and SOHO Standard and Advanced Editions use a SQL Server Express database. To backup your data, do the following (Note: This must be done from the computer on which SQL Express is installed):

  1. Locate the program MXSQLManager.exe from the \Program Files\MXContactEE folder.

  2. Then run the utility:



  3. Click on Backup. The following dialog will appear:



  4. If required you can change the path/name of your backup file. Then click Backup.



  5. You will get an indication that the backup is progressing. You should then get a message that it was completed successfully:




  6. Locate the backup file (by default MXContact.bak in the default Backup folder of the Microsoft SQL Server instance) and copy this to a secure location, preferably stored offsite.
